The Passing of a Racing Great

Horse Racing is a sport that provides many with thrills but also comes with some low moments that make you question why you ever entered into the game in the first place.

It can also be a sport that brings people together and can also be the part of a winning formula and become known as one of the biggest racing partnerships in racing. The partnership of Legendary trainer Bart Cummings and Malaysian powerhouse Dato Tan Chin Nam, spanned 3 decades and saw success at the highest of levels.

Bart Cummings was chosen by Dato to be his main trainer for his horses that raced in the now infamous colours of the black and white checks with yellow sleeves. Colours that were then worn by some of the greatest equine champions that nation has ever seen. Champions such as the name sake of Dato’s breeding empire Think Big, 2 time Cox Plate winner and now top stallion So You Think, Saintly and Faint Perfume to name a few.

On Monday 22nd October, news broke in the racing industry that Dato Tan Chin Nam had sadly passed away after a long life, lasting 93 years. There is not one person in the racing industry that does not know who Dato Tan Chin Nam was, he was well known for his humour around the sales complexes and even adding some humour to his acceptance speeches when receiving some of our biggest trophies in the sport.

Dato’s dynasty will live on through the children, grandchildren and great grandchildren that he leaves behind.

RIP Dato Tan Chin Nam
